If your gift card is not working when you try to redeem it, this article walks through common causes and how to resolve them.
Step 1: Verify your gift card code
Most gift card issues come from mis-entered codes. Check:
- Exact match: the code must match exactly what was in your email or transaction history. Even one wrong character fails.
-
Commonly confused characters:
- O (letter) vs 0 (zero)
- I (letter) vs 1 (one) vs l (lowercase L)
- S vs 5
- B vs 8
- Copy-paste: if possible, copy and paste the code from your email rather than typing it manually.
- No extra spaces: make sure there are no leading or trailing spaces when you paste.
Step 2: Re-check the source email
- Find the original email from the redemption partner.
- Verify the code character by character.
- Confirm the redemption is not yet used (each code works only once).
If you cannot find the email, see How to Retrieve Redemption Card Codes from the Mode Earn App — your code is also stored in the app for most gift card types.
Step 3: Submit an Issue Resolution Form
If verifying the code does not solve the problem:
- Open the Mode Earn App.
- Go to Settings → Ask for Support (or use the in-app Issue Resolution Form if available).
- Include:
- The name of the redemption (e.g., Amazon Gift Card $25).
- Redemption date.
- The code you received.
- A description of the error you see when trying to redeem.
- Submit the form for Support to review.
Tips for faster resolution
- Check spam/junk folders for your gift card email before submitting a form.
- Have order details ready — redemption date, item name, and code.
- Submit within 6 months of your redemption date. After 6 months, Mode cannot resolve gift card issues. See Mode Earn Reward Redemption Guidelines.
- Include screenshots of the error you are seeing if possible.
Common scenarios
Error: “Invalid code” or “Code not recognized”
Usually a typo. Retype carefully or copy-paste from the original email. Check for confused characters (O vs 0, I vs 1).
Error: “Code already used”
If you did not already use the code:
- Check if anyone else has access to your email account.
- Contact Mode Support immediately to report potential fraud.
- Change your Mode and email passwords as a precaution.
Error: “Code expired”
Some gift cards have expiration dates:
- Prepaid Mastercards: 30 days to claim, 90 days to use after claim.
- Amazon Gift Cards: typically do not expire but vary by region.
- If you believe the code is within its valid window, contact Support with the purchase email as proof.
