As of 2026, Mode has limited the number of user accounts that can be linked to a single PayPal email address. This article explains the policy, why it exists, and how to avoid issues.
The policy: each PayPal email can be linked to a maximum of 2 Mode accounts. If more than 2 accounts are detected sharing the same PayPal email, additional accounts may be restricted or permanently closed.
Why this policy exists
Mode actively monitors accounts to maintain a fair rewards environment. Limiting the number of accounts tied to a single PayPal helps:
- Reduce abuse and duplicate redemptions. Fraud schemes often rely on many accounts funneling to one payout destination.
- Protect legitimate users from having their rewards diluted by farming.
- Keep the rewards program sustainable over the long term.
This change supports Mode’s Terms of Service, which prohibit creating multiple accounts or engaging in activity that could be considered fraudulent or deceptive.
What happens if more than 2 accounts share one PayPal
If Mode’s system detects more than 2 accounts linked to the same PayPal email:
- Only the 2 most recently active accounts may remain eligible.
- Additional accounts may be disabled or permanently closed in line with the Terms of Service.
Important: once an account is closed for policy reasons, it may not be restored. Any points on the closed account are forfeited.
What about households sharing PayPal?
Households sometimes share payment methods. Under the current policy:
- ✅ You may have up to 2 Mode accounts linked to the same PayPal email.
- ❌ More than 2 accounts on the same PayPal is not permitted.
If multiple people in your household want to use Mode, Mode recommends each person maintain their own PayPal account. This simplifies accounting, provides cleaner tax records if applicable, and avoids any risk of your accounts being flagged.
How to avoid issues
- Link only 1 or 2 Mode accounts to a PayPal email — never more.
- Do not create extra accounts to try to increase rewards.
- Ensure account information is accurate and up to date.
- If you need to share PayPal between household members, make sure only 2 accounts are ever linked.
Providing inaccurate information or engaging in prohibited account behavior can result in termination of access to the service.
If your account was affected by this policy
If you believe your account was flagged or closed by mistake (for example, you were only ever using 1 or 2 accounts but got restricted), contact Mode Support:
- Open the Mode Earn App.
- Go to Settings → Ask for Support.
- Explain your situation and provide any relevant context (e.g., family sharing situation).
- The Support team will review your case.
Note that the 2-account limit is a firm policy. Support can review whether your specific situation was flagged in error, but cannot approve exceptions to the limit itself.
Important reminder
Using the Mode app means agreeing to Mode’s Terms of Service. Accounts attempting to artificially increase rewards through multiple accounts or similar activity will be restricted regardless of the specific method used.
