If you compare the cost of revealing a Mystery Box in the Mode Earn App versus the EARN’M dApp, you will notice the in-app cost is significantly lower. This article explains why.
The two reveal paths
- Mode Earn App (recommended): reveal with Mode points. Simple, no crypto knowledge needed.
- EARN’M dApp: reveal with $POL (Polygon’s native token) plus a community fee. Required only for Mystery Box codes received from external promotions.
Why the in-app cost is lower
When you reveal on the EARN’M dApp, you pay two fees yourself:
- A community fee in $POL paid to the EARN’M network.
- A gas fee paid to the Polygon blockchain, which varies with network congestion.
When you reveal inside the Mode Earn App, Mode pays most of these fees on your behalf as a benefit to Mode Earn App users. You only pay a small Mode points cost for the reveal.
A rough cost comparison
| Reveal method | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| EARN’M dApp (per code, 1–100 boxes) | 3 $POL community fee + ~0.5 $POL gas = ~3.5 $POL |
| Mode Earn App (per box) | ~200 points |
| Mode Earn App (100 boxes) | ~1,600 points |
At current $POL prices, the in-app path typically costs a fraction of what the dApp path costs for the same reveal — and you do not need to buy any crypto to do it.
When should I use the dApp path anyway?
The dApp path is required for external Mystery Box codes — for example, codes you receive from a partner promotion, giveaway, or external campaign. See Revealing Special Mystery Boxes on the EARN’M dApp for how.
