The News feature in the Mode Earn App lets you earn points by reading news articles. This article covers how to access News, how to earn points effectively, and how reading limits work.
Where to find News
You can access the News feature in two places:
- Home screen: go to the Modes section and tap News.
- Music tab: scroll down to find the News feature.
How to earn points reading news
Points per article
You earn points for each news article you read. The exact points per article vary — check individual article cards for the current rate.
Engagement requirement
To earn points for an article, you must spend at least 30 seconds reading it. The system uses this minimum to confirm real engagement — opening an article and immediately leaving doesn't earn points.
Only fresh articles earn points
Only newly published articles grant points. Re-reading an article you've already earned from doesn't award additional points. Keep coming back to see new articles.
Reading limits
The News feature has both an hourly cap and a daily cap to keep the system fair for all users:
| Limit | When it resets |
|---|---|
| Hourly limit (up to 30 articles) | Every hour |
| Daily limit (24-hour total) | Every 24 hours |
When you hit a limit, a notification appears at the bottom of the News screen. You can continue reading articles for information — points simply won't be credited until the limit resets.
These limits prevent point farming through rapid-fire article opens and help Mode work with news partners on sustainable terms.
Customizing your news feed
Select categories
Tap category badges at the top of the News feature to filter content by topic. Available categories typically include Sports, Technology, Business, Entertainment, and others.
Choose multiple categories
Select more than one category to broaden the range of articles you see. Use this if you want variety — or narrow to a single category if you have a focused interest.
Troubleshooting
- Points stop accruing: check the notification at the bottom of the News screen — you may have reached an hourly or daily limit.
- No new articles appearing: pull down on the News feed to refresh.
- Points credited but missing from balance: see How to Verify Points Earned from Offers (same verification process applies).
