The Cashback feature in the Mode Earn App lets you earn points when you shop online through participating retailers. Like receipt scanning, Cashback is currently available for US users only.
This article explains how Cashback works, why rewards take time to appear, and how to avoid common tracking issues.
How Cashback works
Step 1: Open Shopping in Mode
- Tap the Shopping card on the Home screen.
- Switch to the Cashback tab.
Step 2: Browse or search retailers
Find stores or deals by category or retailer name.
Step 3: Tap “Shop Now”
Tapping Shop Now activates the cashback offer:
- You are redirected to the retailer’s website.
- A cashback tracking session starts and is valid for 1 hour.
Step 4: Complete your purchase
Finish checkout on the same website and browser you were redirected to. Do not:
- Copy/paste the link into a different browser.
- Switch devices between browsing and checkout.
- Open the retailer directly outside the Mode app.
Any of these breaks the tracking session and cashback will not register.
Step 5: Order tracking and validation
After purchase, your order is tracked and enters a validation period (typically 15–45 days). During this time, the retailer confirms the purchase is complete and valid.
Step 6: Receive your reward
Once validated, points appear in your account as Cashback Reward in your Earning History.
Why Cashback can take up to 45 days
Cashback rewards are confirmed by the retailer, not instantly by Mode. Retailers need time to verify that:
- The order was completed correctly.
- The purchase was not returned or canceled.
- The transaction was valid and non-fraudulent.
This validation window ensures accurate rewards and prevents abuse.
Why cashback may not track
Common reasons cashback does not track:
- The purchase was not completed through the in-app Shop Now link.
- The cashback session expired (more than 1 hour) before checkout.
- A different browser or device was used after tapping Shop Now.
- The order was canceled, returned, or partially refunded.
- The order is still within the 15–45 day validation period.
What to do if cashback is missing after 45 days
If 45 days have passed and none of the above issues apply:
- Open the Mode Earn App.
- Go to Settings → Ask for Support.
- Include: retailer name, order number, purchase date, and confirmation that the purchase was made through the Cashback flow.
Support will investigate with the partner.
Tips for successful Cashback
- Always start shopping by tapping Shop Now inside Mode.
- Complete checkout in the same browser and session.
- Avoid ad blockers or private browsing during checkout — these can block tracking.
- Cashback eligibility and rates vary by retailer.
