The Shopping feature in the Mode Earn App lets eligible US users earn points for qualifying purchases. This article covers the Receipt Scanning flow — buying specific items in stores and uploading the receipt for rewards. What is Receipt Scanning?
Receipt Scanning lets you earn points by purchasing specific eligible products in-store and uploading your receipt for verification. Only items listed in the app at the time of purchase qualify. Offers change regularly, so always check the app before buying.
Where to find Receipt Scanning
- Open the Mode Earn App.
- Tap the Shopping card on the Home screen.
- You land on the Receipt Scanning tab by default.
If Shopping is not visible on your Home screen, the feature may not yet be available for your account or region.
How Receipt Scanning works
Step 1: Browse offers
View available receipt offers. Each offer specifies the items, brands, quantities, and eligible stores.
Step 2: Add to your shopping list (optional)
- Tap Add to list so you can track planned purchases.
- Access your list through the shopping cart icon.
Step 3: Make your purchase
- Buy the exact item(s) listed in the offer.
- Purchase from an eligible store (check the offer details for the list).
Step 4: Upload your receipt
- Tap Upload Receipt or Earn X Points.
- Select the store where you shopped.
- Select which offer items appear on the receipt.
- Upload clear photos of your receipt. For long receipts, you can upload multiple photos.
Step 5: Submit for review
Your receipt enters a pending review state. Review typically takes 4–10 days. If approved, points appear in your Earning History as Receipt Scanning Reward.
What makes a receipt valid
To be approved, your receipt must:
- Be from an eligible store.
- Clearly show the exact item(s) required by the offer.
- Display the store name or logo, purchase date, item list, and total amount paid.
- Be fully visible and readable (multiple photos allowed for long receipts).
Tips for taking good receipt photos
- Lay the receipt flat on a solid surface.
- Use good lighting (avoid glare and shadows).
- Keep fingers, folds, and wrinkles out of the image.
- Ensure text is sharp and readable.
- Review photos before submitting and retake if blurry.
Processing time and rewards
- Receipts go into pending review after submission.
- Automated and manual checks take up to 10 days.
- Approved receipts award points automatically.
Why a receipt may be rejected
Common reasons:
- Blurry, dark, or incomplete photos.
- Store not eligible for the offer.
- Item does not match the offer (wrong brand, size, or quantity).
- Duplicate receipts (same receipt already submitted).
- Edited or cropped images.
Do not edit receipt images. Editing — including cropping, filtering, or adjusting color — can cause automatic rejection. Upload the original photo as taken.
If your receipt is rejected
If you believe your receipt was rejected in error:
- Open the receipt details page.
- Select Request Manual Review.
- Provide helpful details (store, date, items purchased).
Privacy and data security
- Receipt data is used only to verify purchases.
- Images are securely stored and processed.
- Data is not shared publicly.
- You may request deletion after review is complete.
