Allowing the Mode Earn App to access your location in the background unlocks additional earning opportunities, particularly location-based surveys and regional offers. This article explains what to enable and why.
How to enable background location
- Open the Mode Earn App.
- Go to your phone’s Settings for the Mode Earn App (Android: Settings → Apps → Mode Earn App → Permissions; iOS: Settings → Mode Earn App).
- Find the Location permission.
- Set it to Allow all the time (Android) or Always (iOS).
Granting “while using the app” is not enough for most location-based earning opportunities — they need background access to deliver opportunities based on where you are.
What background location unlocks
Location-targeted surveys
Many surveys in the Mode Earn App are offered by advertisers who want responses from specific regions. With background location:
- You qualify for surveys targeting your area.
- You receive fewer disqualifications for region mismatches.
- You see more total survey opportunities.
Regional offers and partners
Some offers and partner promotions are only available in specific countries, states, or cities. Background location helps the app match you with offers available where you are.
Privacy and control
- Mode uses location data only to match you with relevant earning opportunities.
- You can disable background location at any time in your phone settings without affecting your account.
- Disabling location reduces the number of surveys and offers available to you but does not prevent earning through other activities (music, games, news, etc.).
If you have trouble enabling location
- Toggle does not appear: restart your phone and try again.
- Keeps reverting to “Only when using app”: some phone models reset permissions periodically — check weekly.
