If you enter your SIM card PIN incorrectly three times in a row, the SIM card locks for security. To unlock it, you need a PUK (PIN Unlock Code) from your carrier. This article walks through the process.
Critical: do not guess the PUK code. Multiple incorrect PUK entries permanently disable your SIM card, and you’ll need a replacement from your carrier. Only enter the exact PUK code your carrier provides.
Step 1: Obtain your PUK code
Your PUK code is not on your phone — it comes from your carrier. Three ways to get it:
Option A: Contact your carrier
Call your mobile service provider and request the PUK code for your SIM card. You’ll typically need to verify your identity with your account PIN or security questions.
Option B: Check your carrier’s online account
Many carriers let you find your PUK code by logging into your online account or mobile app. Look in account settings or device management.
Option C: Check the SIM card packaging
Some carriers print the PUK code on the original SIM card holder or packaging. If you still have it, check there.
Step 2: Enter the PUK code
- On your Mode Earn Phone, when you see the “SIM locked” message, select the option to enter PUK code.
- Carefully enter the PUK code provided by your carrier.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new SIM PIN.
- Confirm the new PIN to complete the process.
Double-check each digit before entering — remember, multiple incorrect entries can permanently disable your SIM.
Step 3: Save your new PIN safely
- Store your new PIN in a password manager or other secure location.
- Don’t share it.
- Avoid obvious PINs like 0000 or 1234.
After unlocking
- Your SIM card is unlocked and your phone regains normal service.
- You can still set your phone to ask for the SIM PIN on each startup (in Settings → Security) — or disable SIM PIN requirement entirely if you prefer convenience over this security layer.
If the PUK code fails
- Double-check the PUK code against what your carrier provided — even one wrong digit will fail.
- Try writing it down and re-entering slowly.
- If entered correctly and still failing, contact your carrier — the code they gave may be incorrect or outdated.
- If the SIM card is permanently disabled, request a replacement SIM card from your carrier.
When to contact Mode Support
PUK codes and SIM locks are controlled by your carrier, not Mode Mobile. Mode Support can’t provide PUK codes. Contact earn@modemobile.com only if:
- Your SIM is unlocked but the Mode Earn Phone still has issues recognizing it.
- You suspect the SIM issue is caused by the phone rather than the SIM.
